{"id":1843,"date":"2012-06-06T23:32:39","date_gmt":"2012-06-07T06:32:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/reinhardkargl.com\/iBlog\/?p=1843"},"modified":"2012-06-07T10:10:00","modified_gmt":"2012-06-07T17:10:00","slug":"transit-of-venus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/reinhardkargl.com\/iBlog\/2012\/06\/06\/transit-of-venus\/","title":{"rendered":"Transit Of Venus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Like thousands of other people, I watched the Venus transit on my computer, via webcast from the <a title=\"Keck Observatory\" href=\"http:\/\/www.keckobservatory.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Keck Observatory<\/a> on the summit of Mauna Kea on Hawaii. (It was amusing to see a bunch of excited scientists trying to keep a TV audience entertained for \u00a06 hours).<\/p>\n<p>There are plenty of great transit photographs taken by amateurs. (The L.A. Times has a nice collection of <a title=\"Venus Transit Images Southern California\" href=\"http:\/\/latimesblogs.latimes.com\/lanow\/2012\/06\/transit-of-venus-2012-begins-worldwide-scientists-cheer-.html\" target=\"_blank\">images from Southern California<\/a>). But the best view was from space. Then known as &#8220;Solar-B&#8221;, the satellite was launched on a Japanese M-5 rocket in 2006. Earlier this year, <em>Hinode<\/em> returned \u00a0stunning images and data from the Lunar eclipse.
